Night Before Christmas Strata

  • 1 loaf of Italian bread, cubed
  • 2 cups shredded Fontiago
  • 4 cups milk
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 6 tbs butter
  • 1 sweet onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, chopped
  • 1/2 green pepper, chopped
Saute onion, garlic and peppers until soft. Place cubed bread in bottom of prepared 13X9 pan. Sprinkle sautéed mixture over top. Whisk eggs, milk, seasonings. Sprinkle shredded Fontiago over top of casserole. Pour milk mixture over all, cover and refrigerate overnight. Next day; preheat oven to 350F. Bake casserole, covered for 45 minutes, remove cover and brown. Check for doneness by inserting knife in center. The knife should come out clean if the cassarole is done.
