Grandma Rosella's Best Ever Ham and Cabbage

What to do with left over ham?
Ingredients
  • 1 quart chicken stock
  • 4 lb McGinnis Sisters Ham portion, bone in
  • 3 onions, chopped
  • 3 carrots, chopped
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and quartered
  • 1 medium head of cabbage, quartered
  • 3 T flour or if Gluten Free - 3 T Better Batter*
  • salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Fill a large soup pot with chicken stock.  Add more water to fill pot 1/2 way.  Add ham and onion.  Simmer for about 40 minutes.  Add carrots, potatoes and cabbage and simmer for 30 minutes, or until cabbage is tender.  In a pint of cold water, add 3 T of flour or Better Batter.  Shake well and add to ham and cabbage to thicken.  Adjust seasonings carefully with salt and pepper. 
 
*Better Batter is available exclusively at McGinnis Sisters Adams Township in package or bulk for when you need just a little bit.  Formulated especially for gluten free use, it measures one for one when using in any recipe as a flour substitute.
